Recommendation: Shape-shifting Leopards, Mobsters and Love - A weird combination right? Well, it's worth reading on those lazy days or to bring you out of any kind of dull mood. Although there is a slight drag in this plot.
Leopard's Wrath is the twelfth installment the Leopard People Series by Christine Feehan published in November of 2019. The central plot revolves around Mitya Amurov - who has taken over the territory of Patrizio Amodeo in San Antonio, TX - and Ania Dover - the new owner of the Dover business.
Leopard People Series focuses on a shape-shifter species who can shape-shift to leopards. Each plot covers one couple that are destined to be mated in this lifetime just like so many lifetimes in the past. And surrounding this couple the plot expands, their advantages, their perils and how their lives move along. They are either set in Borneo Rain Forest - coast of South East Asia - or in Louisiana and Texas in USA or eventually lead there. Coming from hard and cruel lairs, these leopards come out on their own, find their mates, infiltrate the mobs and acquire the territories taking over them.
At the end of Leopard's Blood, it was clear that Christine wasn’t done with the Amurov Leopards. She continues her next plot focusing on them. We have been seeing Mitya Amurov since Leopard's Fury and we also saw that he was not only given his own territory - Patrizio Amodeo's territory - but was also still recouping from the injuries caused in that plot. Now we get to see his story that begins after the events in Leopard's Run.
Mitya Amurov accidentally finds his mate Ania Dover on a rainy night. But with her come a plethora of enemies who want Ania and everyone related to Ania dead making Miya put into the cross-hairs of this enemy. Added to that Miya and his brothers have their own threats to face. Between finding passion and love, dangers creep and crawl at every step for these love birds.
Mitya had suffered so much in his life, more so than Fyodor, I felt from the beginning. And I wondered what kind of woman Christine would conjure for him. At first I wasn’t pleased with Ania at all. I felt her very stubborn at not understanding what Mitya was trying to convey to her, and to add to it, her leopard behaved like a hussy that only created more trouble for Mitya and Ania. But she grew over time and towards the end I accepted her to be a perfect match to Mitya.
Christine might have eliminated one threat to the leopards and the coalition, but she still left open-ended for the Amurovs, leading me to believe she will continue with the Amurovs for a while. But now that she introduced new threat, wonder how she will connect the dots. Would be interesting to see where this leads to in this curve of the plot.
Leopard People series is by far the most erotic of her various series, and one of the reasons why I hedged to read the series in the beginning. And this book is no less erotic. It did feel a little drag at times, a few chapters could have been removed and still made it a complete plot. There is again heavy repeat paraphrasing which also could have been reduced.
I was also waiting for a reunion kind of thing between Evangeline and Joshua, given that they are cousins. But Christine has given enough of gatherings between the Leopard Couples we have seen so far, that I have come to believe she will not have an exclusive one for those two.
She did eliminate one threat to the Amurovs, but that battle felt very short. The way Mitya and his cousins and brothers were tormented, I expected it to go a little longer, But again, if she had extended it, perhaps her heroes wouldn’t be any better than her villains.
Another fierce plot involving the shape shifting leopards and mobs that surround them adding to the chills; with strong magnetism in romance and eroticism between the lead characters adding to the thrills and the end goal that these leopard people try to achieve for humanity - all packed well together making it a definite pick.
1. Plot Reveals:
a. Sevastyan grows in this plot. My feeling is that Christine will have his story up soon.
b. Marzio Caruso and Bartolo Anwar - two more crime families introduced in this plot that are based out of Houston, TX.
c. Bartolo Anwar has two sons - Enrique and Samuele. While Marzio Caruso has four sons - Alessandro being the eldest; Donato the youngest;
d. A new enemy surfaced that could be related to a past from Joshua. That enemy perhaps has a book with details of everyone in the coalition. And that enemy was targeting Joshua and Drake both.
2. Sub Plots:
a. One of Saria’s brothers, Mahieu, and Charisse Mercier – another female leopard – are dating as of Savage Nature.
b. Evangeline Amurov is pregnant as of Leopard's Run with twins.
c. Gorya Amurov and Jeremiah Wheating are gravely injured at the end of Leopard's Run. However, in this plot we see them well and good. So, I believe their stories have to wait for a while.
d. Non-Leopard People who stand-out:
i. Susan Hindman, Senator Hindman’s daughter, is introduced in Burning Wild plot. Christine made her character as brilliant, sharp and fast-learner at a very young age. Will Christine make her a shape-shifter in a future plot?
ii. Jerico Masters and Evan Mitchelson - security / ranch hands all rolled into one at Jake Bannaconni’s property - aren't shifters but are loyal to Jake.
iii. In Leopard's Blood, Molly Sheffield – also on the run from a dangerous man – and Bastein Foret – the local law enforcement detective – could be forming a couple.
e. Unmated Leopard Men and Women:
i. Shilo – a female Leopard in Borneo Forest.
ii. Felipe and Leonardo Gomez Santos – brothers from Brazilian rain forests introduced in Wild Fire.
iii. Jeremiah Wheating – a cub shifter introduced the Wild Fire.
iv. Mateo – Connor’s young step-brother, introduced in Wild Fire.
v. Dr. Abel Winters and his wife Mary Winters; Dr. Liam Mulligan, Dr. Mason. Doc – Leopard Doctors who help the leopard shifters when in need. Suddenly from Wild Cat the doctors have become Doc. Which one of this is addressed as Doc is unclear.
vi. Remaining Boudreaux brothers – Mahieu, Dash, Gage and Lojos, first introduced in Savage Nature.
vii. Trey Sinclair and Evan Courtier - work for Jake Bannaconni or as security for any of the other Leopards as needed.
viii. Joaquin Estrada and Tomas Estrada – Elijah’s bodyguards.
ix. Fyodor Amurov's cousins Gorya Amurov and Sevastyan Amurov - from Russia.
x. Kyanite "Kye" Boston, Borya, Kirill, Matvei - work for Fyodor introduced first in Leopard's Fury
xi. Rodion Galerkin, Vitaly, Logan Shields - Work for Fyodor, introduced in Leopard's Run.
xii. Carter, Fergus, Kai and Gray - Work for Joshua
xiii. Sasha Bogomolov in Florida.
xiv. Miron, Vikenti &Zinoviy (brothers); Kiriil; Matvei - working for Mitya
f. Christine starts to give names to the leopards - human's counterpart - starting Leopard's Fury:
i. Evangeline Amurov's (Fyodor Amurov's mate) leopard is Bebe.
ii. Sonia Tregre's (Joshua's mate) leopard is Gatita and Joshua Tregre's leopard is Shadow.
iii. Timur Amurov's leopard is Temnyy while his mate Ashe Amurov's is Godiva.
iv. Mitya Amurov's leopard is Dymka while his mate Ania Dover's is Jewel.
3. Coalition envisioned by Jake Bannaconni and formed by Drake Donovan with the other Leopard Males - Eli Perez, Elijah Lospostos, Fyodor Amurov, Joshua Tregre, Timur Amurov, Mitya Amurov. They infiltrate the mobs, destroy them, take over their territories, and reduce the crime as much as possible.
4. As the plots progress in this series, they reminded me of another of Christine Feehan's series that is set in New Orleans. One of the team from her GhostWalker Series - Elite Air Force Pararescue Team - are also set in New Orleans Bayous. Will Christine have a cross-over plot between both the series? I hope she does. Would be interesting to see how man-made super soldiers fare with the naturally born super humans. (Christine, are you reading this? :)
