Magic In Tunes: 11/10/2015 - Happy Narakachathurdasi / Choti Diwali

The five-day festival of Diwali starts off with Dhanteras  / Dhanalakshmi Pooja (celebration of Goddess Lakshmi. More here). This is followed by Narakachathurdasi / Choti Diwali. On this day the asura (demon-king) Narakasura was killed by Lord Krishna, his wife Satyabhama and her avatar Goddess Kali. Pre-day for main Diwali, this day is also celebrated with equal pomp and show. Festivities go all day that includes pooja (offerings to god), food, visiting friends and relatives, lighting diyas (lamps) all around and of course the  start of fireworks. (More here)

One of the Diwali songs that comes to my mind is from the 1972 hit Telugu film Vichitra Bandham ( = Strange Relationship) titled Cheekati Velugula Rangeli. Obviously the theme is Diwali, but Lyricist Acharya Atreya compares the festivities of Diwali with light and sound to one's life's feelings and emotions in simpler terms. K. V. Mahadevan at his best always composing the Music while Ghantasala and P. Susheela provided the Vocals.
