Dilwale Dulhainya Lejayenge ( = The Brave-Hearted Will Take Away the Bride) was released in 1995 with Shah Rukh Khan as Raj and Kajol as Simran in the movie. A simple love story that crosses between two countries, adding some excellent music, unforgettable dialogues, awesome locations, scenes that are etched as classic in Indian Cinema now, a lot of quirky moments and the movie has topped every possible chart in Indian Cinema. It had crossed the 1975 hit Hindi movie Sholay as the longest running movie in 2001. However, on Oct 20th marked its 20th anniversary and it is still played at Maratha Mandir theater in Mumbai, India making it the longest running movie. There are some people in audience who have had watched this movie more than 50 times and still watch. I myself had watched this movie quite a few times.

Although now some of the scenes or dialogues may seem irrelevant to the era, bordering on stupidity and outright silly, this movie still stops one for a few seconds at least. What made this movie such a classic, a hit, a craze, a rave, unique in itss own? That is definitely for another post to explain in length. However, to quote a few - Definitely the music. Each song still haunts one when they listen. Amazing locations both in India (Gurgaon) and outside India (England, Switzerland, Montbovon, etc) grabbed everyone's attention to the big screen. Who can forget the famous Train scene? How about "Bade bade deshon mein aaisi choti choti baatein ... hoti rehti hai, Senorita" or "Agar yeh tujhe pyar karti hai toh yeh palat ke dekhegi ... palat ... palat!"? Yes, these had become iconic statements in everyday life making Raj and Simran household people. Not only the plot and dialogues inspired many movies to come, but the music also has done the same.

My favorite piece from the movie is Tujhe Dekha Tho Yeh Jaana Sanam, melodiously Sung by legendry Lata Mangeshkar and Kumar Sanu. The Music composed by Jatin Lalit and Lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi. Normally I am not a huge fan of Kumar Sanu songs, but this is one of the few that haunts me many times.

Lyrics in Romanized Hindi:

Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam;  Pyar Hota Hai Deewana Sanam
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam;  Pyar Hota Hai Deewana Sanam
Abb Yaha Se Kaha Jaye Ham; Teri Baahon Mein Mar Jaye Hum
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam;  Pyar Hota Hai Deewana Sanam
Abb Yaha Se Kaha Jaye Ham; Teri Baahon Mein Mar Jaye Hum
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam

La La La La La..........La La La La La, La La La
Aankhe Meri Sapne Tere, Dil Mera Yade Teri
O Mera Hai Kya (La La La), Sab Kuchh Tera (La La La); Jaan Teri Sanse Teri
Meri Aankhon Mein Aansoo Tere Aa Gaye; Muskurane Lage Saare Gham

Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam;  Pyar Hota Hai Deewana Sanam
Abb Yaha Se Kaha Jaye Ham; Teri Baahon Mein Mar Jaye Hum
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam

Yeh Dil Kahin Lagta Nahin, Kya Kahu Main Kya Karu
Ha Tu Samne Baithi Rahe, Main Tujhe Dekha Karu
Tune Aawaz Di, Dekh Mai Aa Gayi; Pyar Se Hai Badi Kya Kasam

Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam;  Pyar Hota Hai Deewana Sanam
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam;  Pyar Hota Hai Deewana Sanam
Abb Yaha Se Kaha Jaye Ham; Teri Baahon Mein Mar Jaye Hum
Teri Baahon Mein Mar Jaye Hum
