Magic In Tunes: 08/29/2015 – Happy Raksha Bandhan

This day, the full moon day of the month of Sharavan (July or August in English), Hindus across the globe celebrate this festival, Raksha Bandhan. A festival dating back six thousand years is a celebration of love and duty between brothers and sisters. (More of the festival here). Although I miss my brothers always, this one festival I always regret I don’t stay close to them to enjoy the festival. They will always be in my heart and mind though. Here is a beautiful melody for both of my brothers whom I dearly love a lot and wishing them a Happy Raksha Bandhan too!!!

From the 1980 Hindi film Chambal Ki Kassam ( = Chambal's ( = is the name of a boy) Oath) Sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Music was composed by Khayyam and Lyrics penned by Sahir.

Lyrics in Romanized Hindi:

Chanda Re, Mere Bhaiyya Se Kehna,
O Mere Bhaiyya Se Kehna, Behna Yaad Kare
Chanda Re, Mere Bhaiyya Se Kehna,
O Mere Bhaiyya Se Kehna, Behna Yaad Kare

Kya Batalaau Kaisa Hai Woh, Bilkul Tere Jaisa Hai Woh
Tu Usko Pehchaan Hi Lega, Dekhega To Jaan Hi Lega
Tu Saare Sansaar Mein Chamke, Har Basti Har Gaanv Mein Damke
Kehna Ab Ghar Vaapas Aa Ja, Kehna Ab Ghar Vaapas Aa Ja
Tu Hai Ghar Ka Gehna, Behna Yaad Kare
Ho Chanda Re

Raakhi Ke Dhaage Sab Laaye, Kehna Ab Na Raah Dikhaaye
Maan Ke Naam Ki Kasmein Dena, Bhent Meri Ke Rasamein Dena
Poochhana Us Roothe Bhai Se, Bhool Hui Kya Maan-Jaai Se
Behan Paraaya Dhan Hai Kehna, Behan Paraaya Dhan Hai Kehna
Usne Sada Nahi Rehna, Bahana Yaad Kare

Chanda Re, Mere Bhaiyya Se Kehna,
O Mere Bhaiyya Se Kehna, Behna Yaad Kare
Ho Chanda Re, Chanda Re, Chanda Re
