As a kid I grew up in a home where everyone could play the game of Carroms very well (except yours truly), so well that they did go for championships in their respective schools, colleges and offices. I always wondered how a film would fare if it was made on a game of Carroms. True to my thoughts, in 2010 producer Chandan Arora made a film titled “Striker” that revolved around the game of Carroms and how it twists and twines with the life of the lead actor living in the Bombay low income areas. This was the first Indian movie that was released simultaneously in theathers and on youtube on the same day. Perhaps that’s why this movie grossed profits surprisingly.

Storyline was average and music was composed, written and sung by various artistes. Well, that’s the reason why I felt, what can I say. There’s a proverb in Telugu “Tinaga Tinaga Vemu Tiyyanundu” meaning “Even a neem fruit will taste sweeter if you eat it every day”. Such was the music, at first it didn’t hit a note in me but as I listened to it for a few times, I kind of liked some of the songs in fact appreciated one very much than the others.

“Cham Cham Jani Raatein Ye Sitaron Wale Hath” Sung by Sonu Nigam, Music composed by Shailendra Barve and Lyrics penned by Jeetendra Joshi. The whole song is composed in the form of a Qawwali with intermittent claps adding a charming rhythm. It also has a little Sufi touch enhancing the romance.

Lyrics in Romanized Hindi / Sufi:

Jannaton Ke Dar Khule Kuch Baashinde They Chale
Le Aaye Woh Nanhi Jaan Us Khuda Ka Ek Payaam
Tab Se Tu Hai Jahaan Mein Ban Ke Raunak Yahan Ki Meri Jaan
Khwahishon Se Bhi Aage Jo Khushi Ka Mile Woh Armaan

Rare Rare Raaa Durururu Ra… Rattatarara… Rattatatrara… Rirerarara..

Cham Cham Jaani Raatein Yeh Sitaron Waale Hath
Bheeni Bheeni Khushbhoo Jaise Teri Meethi Baat
Ujla Ujla Sa Yeh Tan, Jaise Mehka Ho Chandan
Baahon Mein Teri Guzare, Mera Yeh Saara Jeevan
Teri Ada Mein Masoomiyat Hai, Phir Bhi Hai Shokhi Rangeeniyat Hai
Taaron Se Bhar Doon Main Aanchal Tera
Rab Se Bhi Pyara Hai Chehra Tera, Chehra Tera, Chehra Tera

Rare Rare Raaa Durururu Ra… Rattatarara… Rattatatrara… Rirerarara..

Phool Hothon Pe Khile Chand Aankhon Mein Mile
Phool Hothon Pe Khile Chand Aankhon Aankhon Mein Mile
Bikhre Moti Subah Ki Jaise Kirane Teri Ye Muskaan
Noor Barse Nazar Se Noori Tujh Mein Basi Hai Meri Jaan
Noor Barse Nazar Se Noori Tujh Mein Basi Hai Meri Jaan
Teri Dhanak Ki Pyasi Nazar Hai, Deewanagi Yeh Tera Asar Hai
Teri Dhanak Ki Pyasi Nazar Hai, Deewanagi Yeh Tera Asar Hai
Roohane Rangon Ka Yeh Aanchal Tera
Sapno Ki Raaton Ka Yeh Baadal Mera, Baadal Mera, Baadal Mera

Rare Rare Raaa Durururu Ra… Rattatarara… Rattatatrara… Rirerarara..

Dheere Dheere Sar Chadha, Tera Jaadu Aage Badha
Dheere Dheere Sar Chadha, Tera Jaadu Jaadu Aage Badha
Hua Khud Se Juda Main Phir Bhi Tujhpe Fida Main Meri Jaan
Ishq Le Le Tu Le Le Le Le, Le Le Tu Mera Imtihaan
Ishq Le Le Tu Le Le Le Le, Le Le Tu Mera Imtihaan
Soone Safar Ki Tu Sohbat Hai, Bakhshi Khuda Ne Yeh Milkiyat Hai
Aaja Saja De Gori Aangan Mera, Jaise Sajaya Tune Lamha Mera, Lamha Mera, Lamha Mera

Rare Rare Raaa Durururu Ra… Rattatarara… Rattatatrara… Rirerarara..

oh it was lovely to read the telugu proverb...

Sadhakamuna panulu samakuru dhara lona
Visvadabhirama, Vinura Vema !

:) It's one telugu poem I memorised and still remember!! he he he...I think my mom would repeat it around the time I needed to practice my sitar! :D passive aggressive mom!

eta. haven't heard of the movie. Just might check it out. Carrom is something we are thinking to get D started on! They do get the kid size version now too! Maybe not as intimidating - for ME!! ha haha

I hope you wont mind me correcting it. It's actually:

Sadhanamuna palaku samakuru dhara lona
vishwadhaabi raama vinura vema!

Yep it indeed means that there is nothing one cannot achieve with a little practice and sweat. :)

Yes do start on the carroms...its a great indoor game that enhances brain skills and motion skills. :)
