First time I was introduced to this festival was in Chicago when I got to see the entire Chicago River dyed green for the festival. Had never seen that anywhere before and was simply charmed by it. I also never liked the color green until that day. Unfortunately had lost the pics from that day when my external drive crashed one day. Anyways, one of the song caught my ear that day, titled “Whiskey in the Jar”. So here’s wishing everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and hoping everyone had a beautiful “Green” day. :P From the 1968 singles by The Dubliners, a signature song for Irish.
Lyrics in English:
As I Was Going Over The Far Famed Kerry Mountains
As I Was Going Over The Far Famed Kerry Mountains
I Met With Captain Farrell And His Money He Was Counting
I First Produced Me Pistol And Then Produced Me Rapier
Said: "Stand And Deliver" For He Was A Bold Deceiver
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
There's Whisky In The Jar
I Counted Out His Money And It Made A Pretty Penny
I Counted Out His Money And It Made A Pretty Penny
I Put It In Me Pocket And Brought It Home To Jenny
She Sighed And She Swore That She Never Would Deceive Me
But The Devil Take The Woman For They Never Can Be Easy
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
There's Whisky In The Jar
I Went Up To My Chamber All For To Take A Slumber
I Went Up To My Chamber All For To Take A Slumber
I Dreamt Of Gold And Jewels And For Sure It Was No Wonder
But Jenny Drew Me Charges And She Filled Them Up With Water
And Sent For Captain Farrell To Be Ready For The Slaughter
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
There's Whisky In The Jar
'Twas Early In The Morning Just Before I Rose To Travel
'Twas Early In The Morning Just Before I Rose To Travel
Up Comes A Band Of Footman And Likewise Captain Farrell
I First Produced Me Pistol For She Stolen Away Me Rapier
I Couldn't Shoot For Water So A Prisoner I Was Taken
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
There's Whisky In The Jar
If Anyone Can Aid Tis My Brother In The Army
If Anyone Can Aid Tis My Brother In The Army
If I Could Find His Station In Cork Or In Killarney
And If He'd Go With Me We'll Go Roamin' In Killkenny
And I'm Sure He Treat Me Better Than Me Own A'sportin Jenny
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
There's Whisky In The Jar
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Musha Ring Dumma Do Dumma Daa
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
Wack Fol The Daddy-Ol
There's Whisky In The Jar
A slightly different version of the song is used in an episode titled “Conspirators” from my favorite 60s – 70s TV Show Columbo. It is sung by Clive Revill while he is promoting to Irish investors in America to invest in a fund that would help the widows, helpless and orphans in Ireland courtesy of the war. Here is that version:
Some Find It Most Important And Others Roll About

Some Take Delight In Playing And Wind Up Full Of Doubt
Why Search Any Farther, The Answer's Where You Are
So Join The Celebration, It's Whiskey In The Jar
Oh, Whack A Diddle Diddle
Oh, Whack A Diddle Diddle
Oh, Whack A Diddle Dee
There's No Greater Pleasure Than Whiskey In The Jar
Oh, Whack A Diddle Diddle,
Oh, Whack A Diddle Dee
It Makes Your Spirits Rise Up When There's Whiskey In The Jar
