Pichla | Agla

A classic song from the 1973 hit Telugu movie Kanne Vayasu (= Young Age), Sung by S.P. Balasubramaniam. Music composed by Satyam to the Lyrics penned by Daasaradhi.

This was one of the song that began a beautiful relationship between Satyam and SPB and created wonderful melodies. For this song, Satyam had already recorded the female version by S. Janaki (another leading singer of that time). It is said that SPB being new was very nervous to sing the same song that an already established singer had sung. Clearly he neednt have felt so as when one listens to the song they will surely lose themselves in the melody. Perhaps SPB’s softness in the voice had caused for his success but this song certainly left a mark in the history for him.

Lyrics in Romanized Telugu:

Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geetamo
Naa Madi Lo Neevai Nindipoyene
Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geethamo

Nee Roopame Divya Deepamai Nee Navvule Navya Taaralai
Naa Kannula Vennela Kaanthi Nimpene
Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geethamo

Paala Buggalanu Leta Siggulu Pallavinchaga Raave
Neeli Mungurulu Pillagaalitho Aataladaga Raave
Paala Buggalanu Leta Siggulu Pallavinchaga Raave
Neeli Mungurulu Pillagaalitho Aataladaga Raave
Kaali Andiyalu Ghallu Ghallumana
Kaali Andiyalu Ghallu Ghallumana Raajahamsa La Raave

Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geethamo
Naa Madi Lo Neevai Nindipoyene
Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geethamo

Nidura Mabbulanu Merupu Teegavai Kalalu Repinadi Neeve
Bratuku Veena Pai Pranaya Raagamulu Aalapinchinadi Neeve
Nidura Mabbulanu Merupu Teegavai Kalalu Repinadi Neeve
Bratuku Veena Pai Pranaya Raagamulu Aalapinchinadi Neeve
Padamu Padamu Lo Madhuvulooraga
Padamu Padamu Lo Madhuvulooraga Kaavya Kanyavai Raave

Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geethamo
Naa Madi Lo Neevai Nindipoyene
Ye Divilo Virisina Paarijatamo Ye Kavi Lo Merisina Prema Geethamo

Someone has posted this beautiful translation of the song.

In which heaven
Did you bloom as a parijata?
In which poet's mind
Did you appear as a spark of 'Love Poem'?
You've filled my entire mind, you (Poem)
Your form - as a divine (grand) light,
Your smiles - as new-born stars
Filled me with your eyes' moonlight

Come, while
The tender blushes caress your young cheeks
Come, while
The black (blue) bangs play with the soft breeze
Come,
With the sounds of anklets (ghallu, ghallu), as a royal swan.

(You) Strking the clouds of sleep (dormancy)
With a ray of lightning
You've filled me with raging dreams
You, you've created tunes of romance,
On life's veena
Come, with nectar dripping from every word,
As a Lady of Poetry, come

Now for the female version of the same song. It happens to be a sad version of the song. I believe I did do a sad-happy song series too before… this song would fit in there perfectly too.  I couldn’t find the actual video of the song, but found the entire movie instead. Check the song at 1:26:33. And the song repeats in bits and pieces thru the rest of the movie after this, almost giving the song a haunting feeling.
