05/24/2012: Green Papaya Curry - A colleague gave me a Green Papaya from their garden. Never cooked one before so for a while I stared at it so hard that I almost imagined it cooking by itself. He he he. Then finally I cooked it the usual way like how I cook Potatoes when in hurry. Surprisingly it turnedout to be really yummy!
Recipe: Peel the Green Papaya, remove the seeds and cut into medium / small pieces. In a pan, heat Oil, add 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds, 1/4 tsp Jeera Seeds and 1/4 tsp Urad Dal. Let the spices sputter, then add few Curry Leaves, pinch of Turmeric Powder and pinch of Hing. Now add 2 to 3 medium chopped Green Chilis and 2 Red Chilis crushed finely. Stir for a few seconds, add the Papaya Pieces, salt, 1/2 cup Water (for a medium sized Papaya 1/2 cup of Water should be good) and stir well. In the meanwhile, in a blender grind 1 tbsp of Mustard Seeds and a little water into a fine paste. Add the paste to Papaya pieces, stir, cover and cook till Papaya pieces are cooked well. Serve with Rice or Roti.
