05/13/2012: Egg Semiya Biryani - Happy Mother's Day!! On this eve I made this special Egg Biryani using Semiva / Sevayya. Recipe is very simple although the ingredients seem to be of never-ending list. The whole process took not more than 15 to 20 mins for me. So, dont get scared of the ingredient list. Try it out...you will definitely love it! I loved it and the friend I shared it with also loved it. Am gonna make it again soon sometime this week or so again. :)
Recipe: Boil eggs (3 in no), remove shell, break into halves vertically and keep aside. In a blender grind 1 tbsp Coconut Powder (freshly grated or dry), 2 Green Chilis medium, Ginger 1 inch piece, 2 meium cloves of Garlic and 1.4 tsp Fennel Seeds into a coarse paste. In a sauce pan boil 3 cups of water and salt. Add Fried Vermicelli 1 cup (you can use store bought fried vermicelli or you could fry it at home too), cook till it is done. Drain and keep aside. In a pan heat Oil, add Bay Leaf, Cinnamon Stick (1/4 piece), Cloves (2 in no) and saute. Now add 1 medium Onion chopped finely. Saute till Onions are transparent, then add 1/2 a medium Tomato chopped very finely along with the ground paste, Cilantro and Curry Leaves. Saute a little. Now add 1 tsp of Garam masala powder, 1/3 tsp Coriander Powder, 1 tsp Red Chili Powder and a pinch of Turmeric. Stir well and leave until all are well cooked. Now add the drained Vermicelli. Mix well and simmer for few minutes. Add the boiled egss, stir once, simmer for 2 mins. Remove from flame, garnish with Cashewnuts, Cilantro and Raisins. Serve with any Chutney and Curd.
