Magic In Tunes: 10/02/2015 - Gandhi Jayanthi / Lal Bahadur Shahstri Birth Anniversary

October 2nd marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was the non-violent freedom fighter aiding in getting India it's freedom from British. And everyone remembers him. Sadly people forget the other great freedom fighter, Lal Bahadur Shashtri, whose birth anniversary also falls on the same day. Following on Gandhi and Nehru's footsteps, after aiding in getting freedom, he also was the Prime Minister of India following Nehru's death.  Both these leaders have worked towards a free county, yet only one is remembered fondly. Sad, that we forget many from yesterday who paved way for our today and tomorrow.

Here’s a lovely theme song composed by A. R. Rahman for the 1995 Hindi (Original Tamil,  dubbed in Telugu and Hindi) film Bombay. I picked this song because this movie depicts the tensions between Hindi and Muslims in today's India. Which was the very thing that Gandhi tried hard to avoid and Shastri who struggled to retain the peace despite the separation.
