Magic In Tunes: 09/03/2015 - The Way You Look Tonight
I was watching Round 2 of US Open Tennis between Roger Federer and Steve Darcis last night. The match was a piece of cake for Federer considering he was pitted against another who was ranked 66. Yet I loved watching him play. Post-game they interviewed him and he was as charming as he was on court. Concluding the interview they showed a few slow motion shots of Federer on court and off court with the song "The Way You Look Tonight", perfect for this amazing player.
I believe the version they played was sung by Frank Sinatra. However, this song became famous when Fred Astaire sang in his 1936 hit American musical comedy film Swing Time. The character played by Fred sings to Ginger Rogers who in the scene doesn’t feel at all beautiful as she was busy washing her hair and getting ready. This song went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song that year. But it was originally recorded as a duet by Bing Crosby and his then wife Dixie Lee earlier the same year. The lyrics were slightly different from Fred Astaire's version. In later years this song has been re-sung by several other singers, to name a few like Tony Bennett, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, Maroon 5 and many more.
Here's Frank Sinatra's version which I am sure was the one played as background for Roger Federer.

Lyrics in English:
Some Day, When I'm Awfully Low
When The World Is Cold
I Will Feel A Glow Just Thinking Of You
And The Way You Look Tonight
Yes, You're Lovely
Yes, You're Lovely
With Your Smile So Warm
And Your Cheeks So Soft
There Is Nothing For Me But To Love You
And The Way You Look Tonight
With Each Word Your Tenderness Grows
With Each Word Your Tenderness Grows
Tearing My Fear Apart
And That Laugh Wrinkles Your Nose
Touches My Foolish Heart
Lovely, Never, Never Change
Lovely, Never, Never Change
Keep That Breathless Charm
Won't You Please Arrange It?
'Cause I Love You
Just The Way You Look Tonight
And That Laugh Wrinkles Your Nose
And That Laugh Wrinkles Your Nose
It Touches My Foolish Heart
Lovely, Don't You Ever Change
Keep That Breathless Charm
Won't You Please Arrange It?
'Cause I Love You
Just The Way You Look Tonight
Mm, Mm
Mm, Mm
Just The Way You Look To-Night
