Magic In Tunes: 06/28/2015 – Lady Marmalade (Itchi Gitchi Ya Ya)

I have heard this song (the Christine Aguilera’s version) several times but never understood a single word of it. However recently I saw Patty LaBelle perform this song and it felt lot different. True enough this was the original version sung by the all American Girl group Labelle in 1975 for their album Nightbirds. Wiki gave a litte explanation of the song, but this always intrigued me as I never understood what the words meant.

Magic In Tunes: 06/29/2015 – Maine Hothon Pe Lagayi Tho Hungama Ho Gaya

Whenever I heard this song from the 2014 Hindi comedy-drama film Queen, it always made me think that this was based on a song from an older movie that was made perhaps in 70s. I really couldn’t place the original song or movie (yeah yeah, I should have googled…but was too lazy or too confident on myself that I could find it). Finally gave up and searched to find out that the song was indeed remixed with added vocals and tunes.

The original song was from the 1973 hit Hindi suspense thriller Anhonee ( = Impossible) Sung by Asha Bhosle. Music was composed by the duo Lasmikant Pyarelal and Lyrics penned by Verma Mallik.

And here is the remixed version with added vocals by Arijith Singh and remixed tunes by Amit Trivedi. The song is mostly in background and played at end credits in the movie.
