Magic In Tunes: 04/24/2015 - Happy Birthday Suren

To my wonderful brother who has always been there for me, wishing him a very happy birthday with this beautiful melody. The sentiment in the song is so similar to what I feel towards my own brother. That’s why this is so perfect for him. Song is titled “Mere Bhayya Mere Chanda” (literally means “My brother is my moon”…yeah corny… :P) from the 1965 hit Hindi film Kaajal ( = Mascara) Sung by Asha Bhosle. Music composed by Ravi and Lyrics penned by Sahir Ludhianvi.

Lyrics in Romanized Hindi:

Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda, Mere Anamol Rattan
Tere Badale Main Zamaane Ki, Koi Cheez Na Lu
Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda, Mere Anamol Rattan
Tere Badale Main Zamaane Ki, Koi Cheez Na Lu

Teri Saanson Ki Kasam Khaake, Hava Chalti Hai
Tere Chehare Ki Khalak Paake, Bahaar Aati Hai
Ek Pal Bhi Meri Nazaron Se Tu Jo Ojhal Ho
Har Taraf Meri Nazar Tujhko Pukaar Aati Hai
Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda, Mere Anamol Rattan
Tere Badale Main Zamaane Ki, Koi Cheez Na Lu
Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda, Mere Anamol Rattan
Tere Badale Main Zamaane Ki, Koi Cheez Na Lu

Tere Chehare Ki Mehakti Hui Ladiyon Ke Liye
Anaginat Phool Ummeedo Ke Chune Hain Maine
Vo Bhi Din Aayen Ki Un Khwaabo Ke Taabeer Milen
Tere Kaatir Jo Haseen Khwaab Bune Hain Maine
Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda, Mere Anamol Rattan
Tere Badale Main Zamaane Ki, Koi Cheez Na Lu
Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda, Mere Anamol Rattan
Tere Badale Main Zamaane Ki, Koi Cheez Na Lu
Mere Bhaiya

Magic In Tunes: 04/25/2015 - Gaal Gulaabi Kiske Hain, Nain Sharaabi Kiske Hain

Well, we topped ourselves, to our surprise, in the Fashion Walk we did as a group for the Ugadi Celebrations organized by the local Telugu Association of CT. And all thru the time we spent practicing for this event, this song was going in my head. An old melody with a different twist on fashion walk. How well the poet describes each girl, but picks the girl who has all the qualities at the end.

From the 1960 hit Hindi film Love In Simla, this was a debut movie for both the lead actors, Joy Mukerji and Sadhana. Also Sadhana introduced her trademark haircut dubbed as “Sadhana cut” inspired by Hollwoood actress Audrey Hepburn’s hairstyle. This enjoyable melody was Sung by Mohd. Rafi, Music composed by Iqbal Qurashi and Lyrics penned by Rajinder Krishan. A really peppy rock and roll number always good for one’s ears. :)

Lyrics in Romanized Hindi:

Gaal Gulaabi Kiske Hain, Nain Sharaabi Kiske Hain
Baalon Mein Kiske Raat Base, Dekh Ke Jisko Subah Hanse
Bolo, Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun
Shaqeelaa
Gaal Gulaabi Kiske Hain, Nain Sharaabi Kiske Hain

Lambi Baanhen Kiske Hain, Tez Nigaahen Kiske Hain
Choom Ke Kisko Hawaa Chale, Dekh Ke Kisko Chaand Jale
Bolo, Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun
Jameelaa
Lambi Baanhen Kiske Hain, Tez Nigaahen Kiske Hain

Phool Baraste Baaton Se, Dil Ko Looten Ghaaton Se
Jo Bijli Ko Sharmaaye, Dekh Paseenaa Aa Jaaye
Bolo, Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun
Leela
Phool Baraste Baaton Se, Dil Ko Looten Ghaaton Se

Rang Damaktaa Kiskaa Hai, Ang Chamaktaa Kiskaa Hai
Jalwaa Jaadu Kartaa Hai, Shimlaa Bhi Dam Bhartaa Hai
Bolo, Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun Kaun
Sheelaa
Rang Damaktaa Kiskaa Hai, Rang Chamaktaa Kiskaa Hai

Gaal Gulaabi Nain Sharaabi, Lambi Baanhen Tez Nigaahe
Rag Damakataa, Ang Chamaktaa
Bolo Bolo Bolo Bolo, Kaun
