Magic In Tunes: 03/28/2015 – Happy Sriramanavami

Sriramanavami is a festival in India celebrating the birth of Lord Rama (More here). It falls on the 9th day after Ugadi (the new year) commences. There have been several movies made on the epic Ramayanam (Story of Rama or Rama’s Journey). Of all these my favorite (and my mother’s all-time favorite) is the 1963 hit Telugu Mythological film Lava Kusha. Music was composed by Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao. The movie depicts Uttara Khanda (later part of Ramayana) revolving around the circumstances that lead Rama to leave Sita in the forest. Birth of Lava and Khusha – their sons and their lives. I picked this movie cause it gives an isnight into the life of Rama thru the eyes of his kids.

First up, “Vinudu Vinudu Ramayana Gaatha Vinudee Mansasara” Sung by P. Susheela and P. Leela. Lyrics were penned by Samudrala Raghavacharya

Magic In Tunes: 03/29/2015 – Summer Of ‘69

With social media lately I got in touch with quite a few friends from my childhood. And a flood of memories are gushing into my heart and brain. Here’s to all those memories and friends that I made along the way of this wonderful life.

From the 1985 Album Reckless by Bryan Adams, “Summer Of ‘69”, a rock song that depicts the wonderful times a kid had in the Summer of 69. Song was written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Yes, indeed a wonderful time for me too…though it wasn’t ’69 for me…it was much much much much much later. Still the song fits.

Lyrics in English:

I Got My First Real Six-String; Bought It At The Five-And-Dime
Played It 'Til My Fingers Bled; It Was The Summer Of '69

Me And Some Guys From School; Had A Band And We Tried Real Hard.
Jimmy Quit, Jody Got Married; I Should've Known We'd Never Get Far

Oh, When I Look Back Now; That Summer Seemed To Last Forever
And If I Had The Choice; Yeah, I'd Always Wanna Be There
Those Were The Best Days Of My Life

Ain't No Use In Complainin'; When You've Got A Job To Do
Spent My Evening's Down At The Drive-In; And That's When I Met You, Yeah

Standin' On Your Mama's Porch; You Told Me That You'd Wait Forever
Oh, And When You Held My Hand;  I Knew That It Was Now Or Never
Those Were The Best Days Of My Life

Oh, Yeah; Back In The Summer Of '69, Oh.

Man We Were Killin' Time; We Were Young And Restless
We Needed To Unwind; I Guess Nothin' Can Last Forever, Forever, No!

And Now The Times Are Changin'; Look At Everything That's Come And Gone
Sometimes When I Play That Old Six-String; I Think About You, Wonder What Went Wrong

Standin' On Your Mama's Porch; You Told Me That It'd Last Forever
Oh, And When You Held My Hand; I Knew That It Was Now Or Never
Those Were The Best Days Of My Life

Oh, Yeah.; Back In The Summer Of '69, Oh.
It Was The Summer Of '69, Oh, Yeah.
Me And My Baby In '69, Oh.
It Was The Summer, The Summer, The Summer Of '69, Yeah.
