Magic in Tunes: 02/03/2015 – Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi

A day filled with memories, journey thru the past and meeting those that I had not seen in quite some time. This song fits very much for the way my mood ended on this day.

From the 2004 hit Telugu movie, Sung by Kay Kay. Music composed by M. M. Keeravani to the Lyrics penned by Chandrabose. The lead actor travels to his childhood home town and on the way reminisces on his life there along with experiences he faced. How apt!! I would love to share the actual video but couldn’t find it complete. So here’s the partial video of the song.

Updated 3/29/2020: Found the video for the entire song:

The full song can be heard here but the video is just stills from the movie.

Lyrics in Romanized Telugu:

Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi
Edalothulo ye mulano
Nidurinchu gnyaapakaalu nidra lestunnaayi
Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi
Ee gaalilo ye mamathalo maa amma maata laaga palakaristunnaayi
Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi

Modata choosina touring cinema
Modata mokkina devuni pratima
Regu pallakai pattina kusti
Raagi chembuto chesina istri
Kothi kommalo benikina kaalu
Meka podugulo taagina paalu
Donga chaatuga kaalchina beedi
Subbu gaadipai cheppina chaadi
Mota baavilo mitruni maranam
Ekadhaatigaa edchina tarunam

Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi

Chiki chiki chiki chikicha chikicha chikicha
Chiki chiki chiki chikichaa

Modati saariga geesina meesam
Modata vesina draupadi vesham
Nela parikshalo vachina sunna
Goda kurchi veyinchina nanna
Panchukunna aa pippermentu
Peeru saayabu poosina scentu
Chedugudaatalo gelichina kappu
Shaavukaaruki egavesina appu
Modati muddulo teliyanitanamu
Modati premalo teeyandanamu

Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi

Edalothulo ye mulano
Nidurinchu gnyaapakaalu nidra lestunnaayi
Gurthukostunnaayi, Gurthukostunnaayi
Me

Magic in Tunes: 02/04/2015 – R-E-S-P-E-C-T

One of the strong songs by Aretha Franklin that always makes me feel a bit more stronger. However per Wiki the original song was written and performed by Otis Redding a few years before she released.

Both songs have different stories, emotions and few changes in lyrics as well. Otis’s song is from a man’s perspective who is ready to do anything for his woman as long as he gets his due respect while Aretha’s song is from a woman’s perspective who is perfect for her man and demands his respect.

First up is Aretha’s song that was released in 1967:
