Golconda, Nevada, US!

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Surprise

Did you know that there is a place actually named Golconda in Nevada State in US? I did not know either. I was watching an episode of "Criminal Minds" ("No Way Out" - Part I), and they showed the location name as Golconda. For a minute I thought they were just making it up. But, no, I checked. There is really a palce called Golconda in Nevada, US, located in Humboldt County alongside Interstate 80. They have a Post Office also, Golconda Post Office. It is named after the ancient diamond-mining center Golconda in India

That is all I had found. If ever I get to go there, I will certainly find the history as to why it was named after Golconda in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. For now, it is an interesting observation!

Hi,

There are probably lot more places in US than names in English, since in India we have so many languages so many names - we can probably loan a few to the US.
Glad to know that there a piece of Hyderabad in the US, albeit a name.
It is strange however that inspite of so many names that we have our CM just finds Indira and Rajiv for all his pet schemes. Sigh!.

CM has a political mind not a historian mind..hence the names Indira and Rajiv..LOL!
